Electrocardiogram ECG / EKG
Electrodes on the chest and limbs record the heart's electrical activity over a few seconds.
What it can show
Heart rhythm, arrhythmias happening at the moment of recording, and signs suggesting reduced blood flow.
What it cannot show
Records only those few seconds. A normal ECG does NOT rule out heart disease and will not capture an intermittent arrhythmia.
This is the half people skip. A normal result answers one question, not every question.
Tell the staff before you start
Chest pain happening right now — say so immediately, do not wait your turn.
Also bring the full list of every medicine and supplement you take. Things bought without a prescription belong on that list too.
