Genetic testing: what it means

Results affect relatives as well as the person tested — which is why counselling before and after is a required part, not an optional extra.
There are three kinds of result, not two: a concerning variant, nothing found, and a variant of UNCERTAIN significance. The third is common and the most unsettling.
